What
is a policy?
A
policy is a written statement which guides how you work
in a chosen area of your work.
What
is a procedure?
A
procedure is your step by step plans for dealing with
a particular situation.
What
policies and procedures are required?
If
you are working within the Early Years Foundation Stage
framework then your will need the following:
Safeguarding
children policy and procedure
Equal
opportunities policy
Administrering
medicines policy
Behaviour
management policy
Complaints
procedure
Procedure
for non/late collection of child
Procedure
for lost/missing child
Procedure
for emergency evacuation of premises
Will
these have to be in writing - no for EYFS although
policies must be in place and must be clear to parents
and assistances. Inspectors will check this at
inspection using the Self Evaluation Form and by talking
to parents and assistants.
If
you are working within the Childcare Register Childminders
must keep:
A
statement on keeping children safe
A
statement on dealing with complaints
A
written record of any complaints
The
results of the investigation and any action taken.
If
you are registered on both the EYFS and the Childcare
Register then you need to abide by both of the above.
Good
Practice guidance from DCMA:
DCMA
advise it is good practice to have all your policies
and procedures in writing so you can evidence your normal
working practices to both parents and to Ofsted. Having
written policies and procedures can help you to reduce
misunderstanding and promote good communications.
All
policies should be signed and dated by both the childminder
and parent to show that you have shared information.
Policies
and procedures should be regularly reviewed, at least
once a year or when there are changes, such as a change
in the law. When
reviewing or updating policies and procedures remember to get them signed and dated
by all.
DCMA
complaints policy.
